ICC Region II
WHAT IS REGION II
Many of you might say one or more of the following things when it comes to Region 2:
•How does it have anything to do with me?
• I don’t have time to waste.
•Why should I care?
•What’s in it for me or my jurisdiction?
If you will give us a few minutes of your time, we at Region 2 would like to hopefully address some of these questions.
Region 2 is a chapter of the International Code Council (ICC) representing Alaska, Washington, Oregon, Montana, Idaho and Wyoming. As with all other ICC Associations, it’s a member-focused association.
Each one of us is the Association
Almost all of us share the vision and mission of ICC: protecting the health, safety and welfare of all individuals by creating safe buildings and communities thru the provisions of the highest quality service to the jurisdictions we serve.
For Region 2, some of its purposes are:
•As with ICC, to promote maximum safety to life, health and property at minimum costs through the emphasis of uniformity in the application, interpretation and enforcement of the I-Codes
•Promotion of improved public understanding and appreciation of the proper and consistent enforcement and administration of the I-Codes and their importance to the safety, welfare and prosperity for all jurisdictions within Region 2
•To support all the Chapters of Region 2
•The promotion and support of regional code consensus
•The promotion and support of regional code development
•To promote professional assistance and technical advice to legislative and other governmental bodies in the declaration and administration of the building codes and related regulations
•To provide opportunities and forums for member networking and to discuss issues of mutual concern
•The promotion of continued educational opportunities that improve the prestige of Code Officials through high quality training in the standards of consistent enforcement and administration of the I-Codes
•Promotion of a better understanding and appreciation of the Association and its individual member’s responsibilities to the public through sponsorship and promotion of Building Safety Week
You can find many of these goals and ideas in our Mission Statement:
MISSION: Region II consisting of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, & Wyoming are dedicated to excellence in the built environment through education and engagement at the local, regional, national, and international levels, promoting a safer environment for all by bringing together individuals engaged in the administration, enforcement and implementation of all codes related to the construction industry.
Region 2 knows that serving many members in our six states can be a big challenge. Trying to hit every point of the Association’s purpose can best be achieved by each of us helping to make every member better by participating whenever possible within our individual chapters and within Region 2. The best way this can be facilitated is through education, training and member interaction.
Some of the continued and ongoing goals of Region 2 are:
•Continued conference calls with Region 2, its committees and its member chapters
•Support of candidates through the Candidate Support Committee process
•Support of code development though the Code Development Committee
•Continued support and participation in educational opportunities
•Continued growth and participation within Region 2 and its member chapters
Region 2 is calling on each and every one of you to ask what you can do to help all of us achieve our goals. We ask you to assist us in pursuing excellence and strengthening each and every member of our profession within our six states. Region 2 is rich in the experience and knowledge and it is time to tap in to this great resource in our possession.
We encourage you to attend the monthly conference calls and be an active participant in the workings of your Regional Chapter. If a member of the Board can ever be of service, or if you have ideas, please let us know.
